Each row in the tables linked to above contains a set of homologs. The first column (Functional Cat.) indicates the functional category of the methanogen ORF. The categories are amino acid biosynthesis
(A), biosynthesis of cofactors (B), cell envelope proteins (C), energy metabolism (E), GTPases & homologs of vacuolar ATPases (G), intermediary metabolism (I), fatty acid and phospholipid biosynthesis
(L), nucleotide biosynthesis (N), other (O), cell processes (P), replication (R), transcription (S), translation (T), transport (X), tRNA synthetases (Y), & regulatory genes (Z). It should be noted that these
are nearly the same classifications as presented by Bult, et. al., in the M. jannaschii genome paper. The second column (F. M. Score) indicates how well the four
homologs' functional categories match. 1 indicates that all four of them match. 2 indicates that three out of four match and the functional classification of the fourth is not known.
The third column (Inf/Oper) indicates whether these homologs fall into the informational or operational categories. The remaining columns indicate the ORFs found to be homologs. M. ORF = Methanogen open reading frame E. ORF = E. coli
open reading frame C. ORF = Cyanobacterial open reading frame Y. ORF = Yeast open reading frame M. P. ORF = Methanogen paralog open reading frame
